The Bowood Park Cornwall Bowl team booked their place into the last eight of this years competition with an excellent 3-2 victory over West Cornwall at Carlyon Bay on Sunday 6 November.

Club Captain, Allan Stockwell selected an unchanged team for the tie which subsequently saw all five matches having to concede shots to their opponents.

The dynamic duo of the Hobbs brothers (Chris & Kevin) drew first blood for Bowood with a nail biting 1 hole win against West Cornwall's Tim Rodgers and Ian Alford.

Chris Simmonds and David Wellington were in control of their match from the off and walked off the 11th green 5up. However, a late surge from Steve Turner and Sid Cryer saw the latter walk off the 16th green now only 1 down. A solid par 4 from Simmonds and Wellington was enough to win the 17th, the match, and crucially seal Bowood's second point of the day.

Jason Hill and Jimmy Slatter maintained their 100% record with a fine 3&2 victory over Ian Hanley and Tim Martin and thus securing the 3 points needed for Bowood's passage into the quarter final.

Matches 4 and 5 went the way of West Cornwall as Richard Glasson and Gary Cox overcame Chris Jennings and Paul Hatto by 4&3. Mark Berry and Craig Barlow also saw off the challenge of David Parsons and Martin Rowe by the same scoreline.

Many thanks must go to Carlyon Bay for hosting. West Cornwall for the spirit in which the game was contested, and of course, the caddies and supporters for giving up their valuable time.

The quarter final will be played against Merlin over the weekend of 7/8 January at a venue to be announced.
